Is It curable?
Psoriasis is considered as an incurable, long term chronic condition that affects 2-3% of the UK population. However, there are a variety of treatments available to help manage the condition successfully.
The treatment of Psoriasis vary from one person to another and may usually be a case of trial and error to find the right treatment or combination of treatment that may work for one.Severe Psoriasis usually requires treatment with oral drugs for some, while others may be prescribed topical treatments ( Medication applied onto the skin) which may include, steroids and anti inflammatory creams or ointments.
Is there any herbal treatment known to work?
Moisturising the affected areas regularly may help reduce dryness and scaling of the skin. Kamille herbals is developing a comfrey and calendula cream which may help to intensely hydrate the skin and calm the inflammation of the patches and relieve the itchiness and irritation caused by this skin conditions.
Comfrey ( Symphytum officinale) is rich in allantoin a chemical that protects the skin and promotes the growth of new skin cells. However, comfrey is only recommended for external use as it may damage the liver if ingested due to the fact that it also contains pyrrolizidine alkaloids.
Calendula (calendula officinalis)is an anti-inflammatory which also promotes skin healing .
Other herbal oils that are known to help calm and soothe the skin include my favourite lavender essential oil, green tree, aloe vera, chamomile,Echinacea and licorice root.
